About the opportunity

We’re a diverse software company located in Berlin, Germany. We’re looking for a seasoned technical documentation manager who can take ownership of our documentation strategy and help bring it to life, as well as improve our overall technical documentation quality. If you are excited to develop documentation processes, procedures, and operations, as well as oversee the crafting of a world class knowledge base encompassing a range of document types, this position might be a good match! 

What to expect?

You’ll create a documentation strategy that encompasses processes, tools, a delivery framework and most importantly incorporates customer feedback for constant maturing and improvement of our online knowledge presence. You’ll work closely with a talented team of writers, engineers, product managers, product marketers and designers to shape and manage a wide variety of documentation including release notes, API docs, technical how-to’s, and FAQs. Day to day, you’ll: 

• Create industry class technical documentation for a company that cares about both developer and authoring experience
• Analyze documentation needs and make recommendations regarding documentation priorities
• Communicate highly complex technical concepts clearly and concisely
• Coach engineers to improve their writing
• Review, test, and edit content submitted by non-writer contributors
• Contribute to our help center, to ensure that it makes Contentful approachable
• Take ownership and responsibility for your results and finish what you start
• Offer creative ideas and encourage others to share theirs
• Help the team improve its impact on customer satisfaction
• Find ways to create a feedback loop from customers to writers so we can do the right things as we build a first class knowledge base
• Maintain documentation in a logical, process-driven manner
• Find gaps in our knowledge presence and work with the team to strategically fill those gaps
• Shape and implement a long-term vision for our knowledge presence
• Work with a range of stakeholders to develop content when needed
• Develop checklists and process checkpoints to ensure we can repeat successful documentation launches
• Perform reviews of your team and help them improve their skills and the impact they have on our customers' success
• Manage a small team of Technical Writers

What you need to be successful?

Required Skills

• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Applied Engineering or a related field with exceptional communication and written skills in English
• Great face to face communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong process orientation
• A strong desire to learn and help your direct reports learn with you

Preferred Experience

• API documentation
• Engineering skills or background 
• Track record of managing and growing teams from smaller to larger
