About the opportunity

As a Sales Engineering Manager, you are responsible for building and running a team of regionally distributed Sales Engineers throughout North America. You will grow the size and abilities of the team already in place and work in close collaboration with regional and global sales and partnership teams to align on go-to-market strategy, role focus and locations in order to support our continued growth.

Contentful’s Sales Engineers serve as trusted advisors for prospects, customers, and internal Sales and Product teams. They map customer needs to the value of the Contentful platform, and demonstrate its benefits to developers, product managers, marketing leaders, and C-level executives.  As the team guide, you will lead and scale a team of effective, consultative, and technical sales engineers, be a role model on our most important opportunities, and assist in developing insights and strategies that ensure successful Contentful deployment and adoption

Sales Engineering Manager may travel up to 25% of the time and will have the opportunity to work with teams around the world, from visionary brands to innovative digital agencies.

What to expect?

  • Hire, on-board, train, mentor, and develop new Sales Engineers
  • Partner with regional and global sales and partnership teams on go-to-market strategy
  • Guide Sales Engineers to utilize a customer-focused strategy to drive adoption of Contentful in partnership with the sales management team
  • Coach Sales Engineers in the skills needed to map technology capabilities to prospect and customer business needs; to communicate technical software delivery concepts to mixed technical and non-technical audiences
  • Capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the Sales Engineering community
  • Guide and motivate the development of demonstrations, digital experiences, whitepapers, datasheets, and other customer facing guidance and best practices
  • Provide technology leadership and strategic inputs into building new capabilities, technical readiness, and offers based on emerging technologies and market trends

What you need to be successful?

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a comparable field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of SaaS Sales/Solution Engineering Management experience, preferably with employees in distributed locations
  • 3+ years of influential success as a Sales/Solution Engineer individual contributor
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ideally have recent industry experience with current web technologies and cloud concepts (microservices, Javascript, APIs, CDNs, etc.)
  • Experience and excitement about disruptive technology solutions
  • Experience shaping the practice of Sales Engineering at a previous company
  • Experience initiating cross-departmental company initiatives, gathering other experts around them to accomplish shared goals.
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time
