About the opportunity
We are looking for Staff Backend Engineer to influence the future of our technology and services. In this role, you’ll work closely with the team and leadership on making important architectural evolution and evolving the backend practice at Contentful.
Staff engineers drive the technological evolution of Contentful by charting the path ahead and working hands-on on high-stakes, technically-critical projects.
Reporting directly to Director and working closely with CTO and EVP engineering staff engineers are responsible for the evolution of specific technological areas of Contentful.
What to expect?
- Architect and build the next platform-level changes
- Work on scaling our high traffic APIs, including our GraphQL API, one of the busiest GraphQL endpoints of the internet
- Architect and build the next backend capabilities of our application framework so Contentful itself and Contentful partners and customers can build on Contentful
- Work on advancing standards and practices in the backend discipline
- Work closely with the department leadership on determining the technical roadmap
- Work with a technology team that wants to innovate how to architect workload specific solutions on a mix of serverless Docker, Kubernetes
- Participate in the selection process of technologies and services that Contentful will adopt
What do you need to be successful?
- Experience in guiding from inception to delivery of architecture level projects at a global scale
- Familiar with distributed systems architecture and operations
- Fluent with our stack AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, TypeScript
- Serverless and edge technologies experience and interest a bonus
- Passionate and provably successful in influencing the practice of a team of 30 or more members
- Passionate about teaching and empowering your team and stakeholders
- You communicate well in English and you know how to cultivate empathy and openness towards people from all over the globe
