I just hit my one year at Contentful, so I’m even more fired up to share with you all the amazing things the members of the Contentful Community have done in the last month. Looking back at the past year, I’ve been most impressed by all the cool UI extensions that y’all have been sending to me. So, to celebrate, I’m dedicating this month’s newsletter to UI extensions!
For the last few weeks I’ve been following Lee Martin’s Twitter feed as he’s been posting about his experience with utilizing Contentful. Lee has had an amazing career, working on campaigns for the Foo Fighters, Beck, Jimmy Eat World, Them Crooked Vultures, and many others, so I was really excited when he shared this post about building a UI extension to enable editors to search Apple Music from within Contentful. Check it out!
The team at Contentful has been hard at work, adding a ton of new functionality into our UI Extension SDK. In our last update, we added the ability to create custom alerts and prompts, and confirm dialogues. This month, we’re bringing support for creating new entries and assets, using the slideInEditor to help navigate existing entries, and trigger success and error notifications. Frederik Lölhöffel, PM for extensibility at Contentful, created an example gist you can check out to see all of these new features in action! Learn more here.
Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to restart the Contentful Meetups. In the next month we’ll be hitting NYC, Toronto, Stockholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and London. Head over to our events page for all the details.
I’ll be attending the NYC and Toronto Meetups. I’m looking forward to learning about Atomic Design from Gin Lane, and how Ecobee is making JSON more friendly for non-technical users with UI Extensions. Hopefully I’ll see you there! If you’re ever interested in speaking at a Meetup just shoot me an email—we’d love to get you up on stage. You can view all of our upcoming events here.
That’s it for this month. I’ll see you in March.
