Does Contentful really go from free to $489 a month?
Johnathan asked via Twitter, “Does @contentful really go from free straight to $489 a month?”
Yes — but that’s a good thing. It means that most of the benefits of our previous Micro and Small spaces are now available for free in the Community edition.
Can I customize my plan?
JS asked via email, “Are there piecemeal additions to the Community edition? i.e., Can I pay for additional records if I want them, or do I have to upgrade to Team the moment I pass 25,000?”
To keep our self-service pricing simple, we only customize our Enterprise tier. If you hit 25,000 records, you’ll be blocked from creating new records until you upgrade to the Team tier with a Large space to gain additional records.
Kostas asked via the Contentful community Slack, “Hi guys, gals and non-binary pals, are there other people using multiple spaces for a large Contentful architecture and finding themselves in a bit of a pickle with the removal of the Micro and Small spaces? I'm wondering what the best practices are with large Contentful projects. Are Enterprises and Team the only solution now for those cases?”
It might be possible that a Medium or Large space on our Team tier is more appropriate than multiple spaces for a single project. Additionally, the Enterprise tier offers flexible POC spaces that are ideal for developing multiple projects in tandem. That said, we won't be changing the Micro and Small spaces you've already invested in — and you can contact support until 2021 to add more of these spaces if you need them for your architecture.
How can I switch to the Community edition?
Kurt Kemple asked via Twitch, “I signed up years ago. What do I have to do to get into the community edition?”
If you’re on a previous developer edition and didn’t get automatically upgraded to the community edition, please contact us via the Contentful support portal.
I need that Contentful swag

What is the new Contentful Community edition?
Contentful’s new free-forever edition is designed to accelerate digital development by enabling the developer community to build without barriers, using the latest technologies such as GraphQL in their programming platform and language of choice.
What’s different about the Community edition vs. the Free trial?
Contentful’s free Community edition can be used forever, at no cost. It’s a feature-rich offering compared to other paid starter plans or limited trials on the market. We’re making this available because we believe in supporting innovation and education. Limited, 14-day trials don’t give developers the freedom and time to learn about a new platform and start to build out projects.

Who is the Community edition for?
The Community edition is aimed at supporting individual developers with fast, easy access to Contentful so they can start building quickly.
What can I build on the Community edition?
This plan is good for building a modern website, a mobile app or supporting other channels, such as personal sites, hackathons or philanthropic projects. The sandbox environments allow you to safely, manually test a few features in parallel before merging into production.
