Gangverk helps A&E tune its digital experience for a new era with Contentful
Published on September 3, 2026

For decades, television revolved around broadcast schedules, but the rise of streaming and services and the shifting digital landscape has put audiences in control. They expect the content they care about to be available when, where, and how they want it, giving networks like Arts & Entertainment new opportunities to expand their digital presence.
Over time, the network built an extensive library of high-performing digital content, which ultimately grew its audience. Eager to retain and grow this new customer base further, A&E partnered with Icelandic digital development group, Gangverk, to refresh the design of core websites, including History.com and AETV.com.
Together, they created modern digital destinations that showcase A&E’s iconic content in a way that’s fresh and engaging for audiences with Contentful from Salesforce at the core.
Broadcasting a better design system
At the onset of the project, Gangverk collaborated closely with A&E’s editorial, design, and product teams to define the vision for the refresh. The goal was to make content easier for audiences to discover and navigate, while giving internal teams a more efficient way to manage and scale content across brands.
Gangverk built a shared platform and design system on Contentful, using History.com as the pilot. Following its successful launch, the team extended the foundation to AETV.com, adapting the experience to the channel’s distinct brand and editorial voice. This approach gave each site a fresh, editorial-forward presence without requiring teams to rebuild the underlying experience from scratch.
Behind the scenes of a more efficient editorial experience
Contentful gives A&E a flexible foundation for managing content across its portfolio. Automated workflows, reusable content types, and content references help editors create and publish faster, while making it easier to reuse content and modules across brands and channels. Teams can spend less time duplicating work and more time creating experiences that drive discovery and engagement.
The redesigned History.com and AETV.com have also performed well with audiences. At a time when AI and changing search behaviors are putting pressure on traffic and engagement across many digital properties, both sites have maintained steady performance — a meaningful signal of success.
Just as importantly, A&E now has a repeatable model for future launches. New branded experiences can build on shared components, workflows, and content models, while still giving each brand the flexibility to maintain its own identity and editorial voice.
The result is a scalable editorial ecosystem that balances efficiency with brand individuality, and gives audiences richer, content-driven experiences across articles, videos, games, shows, and more.
