The apps of March: Basketball draft picks made easy with Contentful

If you’re a fan of basketball, you’ve probably participated in at least one March Madness fantasy league. Tired of tracking her draft picks in a spreadsheet, Contentful Solution Architect Aubrie Hill had the genius idea to use our App Framework to create a draft pick app.

Our own Lucas Stahl, senior developer marketing manager, created Stahlwalker Cookbook, a Star Wars-themed food blog using Next.js and Contentful. In this post, he details how he set up his first Next.js project with our starter, customized his project, and used Contentful to manage the content.

Our calendar has been chock-full of planning, hosting, and attending various events. Here’s a quick round-up of the most noteworthy past and future happenings.

Earlier this year, Contentful’s Stefan Judis and Netlify’s Jason Lengstorf teamed up for a walkthrough on rendering content faster. Check out this in-depth write-up of their talk.

At the Jamstack Berlin meetup in February, Raymond Camden gave a stimulating talk on the three ways you can integrate search into Jamstack projects.

On April 21, Contentful’s Product Marketing Manager Artas Bartas and Senior Software Engineer David Fateh will show you how enterprises use the App Framework to build powerful applications. After sharing the basics, they’ll guide you through popular development processes.

Hands down, this is one of the coolest portfolios I’ve ever seen! Jesse Zhou uses three.js and Blender to transform their website into an interactive 3D ramen stand (yum!).

Your Zodiac sign as a typeface

One of my favorite steps with new builds is selecting fonts. In this Twitter thread, Accessibility Designer Anna Cook matches typefaces with zodiac signs. Do you think yours is accurate?

Carbon

I’m jealous of the amazing code images being shared on social media. It turns out, there’s this neat tool called Carbon that lets you curate aesthetically pleasing images of code.

Contentful changelog

Changelog

Slack and Netlify Marketplace apps

We’ve released a brand-new Slack app. Now you can publish a customizable message in Slack when an entry is created, deleted, published, or unpublished, but you can also customize.

We have also updated our Netlify app. It is now able to trigger builds automatically, rather than manually, when content is published or unpublished.

You can install the Slack and Netlify apps via our Marketplace today! If you already have the Netlify app installed, it has automatically been updated. Link to changelog.

Improved create-contentful-app tooling and React hooks for the App Framework

The create-contentful-app CLI has been updated so that apps can be built with JavaScript instead of TypeScript, Yarn instead of npm or even from your own custom template.

We have also released a new React Apps Toolkit, where we provide multiple new React hooks that abstract the most common use cases. That way, you have to write less boilerplate code!

Analyze and audit search results with a downloadable CSV

Content search results are now downloadable as a CSV. This means you can analyze results with your tool of choice.

Beta release: contentful.js v10 with enhanced TypeScript support

We released contentful.js v10 in Beta with enhanced TypeScript support! This version lets you see the shape of your content within the text editor, plus it includes query type support and chained client modifiers. Here’s a migration guide to help you transition to v10. Link to changelog.
