Migrating from alpha apps

We’re taking apps out of the experimental alpha phase and moving it to beta. This move means all alpha apps will stop working. Most of our apps will be available in beta, while some will be discontinued. This document explains the different migration options for each app. It covers the following areas:

  • Uninstallation: How to uninstall the alpha app
  • Artifacts: How to uninstall anything leftover from the alpha app including content types or entries
  • Migration: Migrating to the beta app (if available) and alternative suggestions for discontinued apps

Table of contents

Netlify

The Netlify app has been fully reimplemented for beta. To migrate, follow the instructions below.

Uninstallation

Step 1: Navigate to the app configuration screen under

https://app.contentful.com/spaces/{YOUR_SPACE_ID}/apps_alpha/netlify

Step 2: Hit the "uninstall" button to remove the app as well as the two UI Extensions the app has created.

Uninstall Netlify

Artifacts

The uninstallation of the Netlify app removes all artifacts from Contentful. In your Netlify account you can delete the build hooks (used to trigger a build) and outgoing webhooks (used to notify Contentful about build updates) from the site used by the app.

Migration

To install the Netlify beta app head to

https://app.contentful.com/spaces/{YOUR_SPACE_ID}/apps/netlify

and follow the installation instructions.

Algolia

The Algolia app will be discontinued once the alpha ends. You can achieve the same results by using webhooks to update Algolia indices. The webhooks created by the App can be used as reference.

Uninstallation

Step 1: Navigate to the app configuration screen at:

https://app.contentful.com/spaces/{YOUR_SPACE_ID}/apps_alpha/algolia

Step 2: Hit the "uninstall" button to remove the app:

Uninstall Algolia

Artifacts

The uninstallation of the Algolia app removes all Algolia webhooks from your space.

Migration

To keep the functionality of the app, simply do not uninstall it. The webhooks the app created stay in the space and will continue to send notifications to Algolia. If you need to create more webhooks to updated indices, please use the Algolia webhook template.

AI Image Management

The AI Image Management app will be discontinued once the alpha ends. The Image Uploader extension the app was using is available in our marketplace.

Uninstallation

Step 1: Navigate to the app configuration screen under

https://app.contentful.com/spaces/{YOUR_SPACE_ID}/apps_alpha/aiImageManagement

Step 2: Hit the "uninstall" button to remove the app as well as the two UI Extensions the app has created.

Uninstall AI Image Management

Artifacts

This app creates a content type "Custom Image" and there might also be entries of this content type. The unistallation will not remove the content type nor the entries. Please delete/keep as required.

Migration

As mentioned above, the app itself is discontinued. To install the Image Uploader just follow the "Install now" button from the marketplace and assign the extension to the "image" field of the "Custom image" content type.

Basic Approval Workflows

The Basic Approval Workflows app will be discontinued once the alpha ends. The Basic Approval Workflows extension will be kept available on Github so it can be installed if needed.

With the recent release of tasks and comments we introduced a native content workflow functionality that makes this app redundant.

Artifacts

There are no artifacts left after uninstallation.
