Templated spaces

Overview

NOTE: Templated spaces are only available on specific plans. Reach out to your Sales representative for more information about feature availability.

Templated spaces enable you to build digital experiences that share the same, centrally managed content model and require strict governance. Typical use cases include, for example, creating microsites for regional brand subsidiaries or independent franchises.

With Templated spaces you can connect to Enterprise spaces and reuse content with cross-space references, without having to duplicate, for example, globally managed brand content or legally approved terms and conditions.

When working with Templated spaces, you can import content types from any space, multiple spaces or even from a hardcoded JSON object (when creating a template via the CMA).

We recommend using a Template modeling space to create content types and configure the content model for your Templated spaces. A Template modeling space enables you to keep your content model in a separate, dedicated space and allows you to include cross-space references to all other spaces.

The following steps are required when using a Template modeling space with your Templated spaces:

  1. Create a Template modeling space.

  2. Create your Templated spaces.

  3. Create a template for Templated spaces.

  4. Install the template in Templated spaces.

NOTE: You cannot edit the content model in a specific Templated space.

The only actions you can perform on a content type are:

  • Hide fields

  • Omit fields in the API response

  • Delete fields

  • Delete content types

  • Edit a field’s default values.

The editor UI settings are also not editable so you cannot, for example, select a custom widget for a specific field or reorder sidebar widgets. If you want to use an app in a Templated space that provides custom widgets, you have to:

  1. Install that app in the Template modeling space.

  2. Configure the field widgets / sidebar widgets in the Template modeling space.

  3. Import the content types (together with the editor UI settings) into a Templated space via template installation.

NOTE: You still need to install the same app in the Templated space as well.

You can further edit the content model for your Templated spaces by installing a new version of the content model template. For more information about templates for Templated spaces, see Create a template for Templated spaces.
